If you have acute or chronic back pain and you haven’t found pain relief from rest, heat and ice therapy, and pain medication, a chiropractor can help. Chiropractors offer nonsurgical, drug-free lower back pain relief that addresses the root cause of your back pain. At Cy-Fair HealthCare Associates, our chiropractors have extensive experience assessing and diagnosing back pain. We will design a personalized treatment plan that combines multiple chiropractic therapies for best results. One of the most effective therapies for some causes of back pain in spinal decompression.

Is Spinal Decompression Right for You?

Spinal decompression therapy is a nonsurgical traction therapy that improves spinal alignment and alleviates pressure on your spine, muscles, and nerves. You might be a good candidate for spinal decompression if you have chronic or acute lower back pain, sciatica, or arthritis of the spine. We don’t recommend spinal decompression for patients who are pregnant, have any type of spinal implant, have had a failed back surgery, or had an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

What Happens During Spinal Decompression?

You will lie fully-clothed on a comfortable motorized traction table. We will attach a harness around you to stabilize your body as the table moves. One of our chiropractors will control the table’s movement with a computer program. As the table moves, it slowly and gently stretches your spine, limbs, muscles, and ligaments. This can shift the spine back into alignment, promote healing, relieve pain and inflammation, and alleviate pressure on nerves and muscles.

What Conditions Are Treated With Spinal Decompression?

We might recommend spinal decompression if you have:

  • A herniated or bulging disc
  • A pinched nerve
  • Sciatica symptoms
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Spinal stenosis
  • A bone spur
  • Arthritis of the spine

Is Spinal Decompression Painful?

No, spinal decompression is not painful. Most people find it relaxing. Our chiropractors perform this therapy in a clinical setting, using state of the art equipment and technology. We do everything possible to prevent discomfort and mitigate risk.
